Traffic Report

Unique vistors in February: 16,912.
Unique visitors in March: 61,740.

Wow. Six months ago this blog was getting a few hundred visitors a month. If this were 1998, I could have IPO’d on that kind of growth.

Before I get too self-important, I should note that the vast majority of this month’s traffic, though, went to just one post that was widely linked. Subtracting visitors to that page gives a figure closer to last month’s number.

The IPO market may be dead, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make money on this kind of growth.

Coming soon, a series of books and infomercials by Kieran Healy entitled “How to Become a Big-Time Blogger in Six Months—I did it and you can too!”

Actually, you have IPO’ed.

In anticipation of more “big time” posts, I have purchased nearly 1,000 shares of your blog at blogshares.com, for the bargain price of 5 cents per share. :-)

Jeff (I’m assuming you’re American. I apologise if you’re not, but the points are still valid.),

Some answers in to your comments:

Interesting that those who are “shaming” the USA are the same individuals who don’t live here…yet, but deeply desire to.

Shame on anyone from any other country who doesn’t know what it took to get them to where they are now. You have obviously forgotten the ingenuity and the fortitude with which it took to stop a trio of madmen almost 60 years ago (Hitler, Mussolini, and Hirohito). They dominated the world, walking into France, Poland, Greece, China, Korea…just to name a few. If it hadn’t been for men and women from the United States and Great Britain…along with some very brave folks in Russia, the world would have been split up by those fascist dictators.

Have you also forgotten the BILLIONS of dollars that the US has GIVEN away with NO hopes of ever being repaid?

Or does your economy exist beyond the dollar? You hypocrites! How dare you insult the US or Great Britain! You are snivelling cowards who run from a dictator like Sadaam Hussein because you think you need more “proof”.

The only proof you need is found in a whiskey bottle because you refuse to see the tens and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens that Sadaam and his regime have massacred.

Their blood cries out and all you can do is sit in judgement on a righteous man like George W. Bush!

You are hypocrites because you bow down to the dollar every day and worship it like Sadaam wants you to!

He has no desire for you to see the mass graves that are filled to overflowing with the innocent men, women and children who refused to merely follow him. He has no desire for you to see the tens of thousands of Iranian soldiers that he butchered.

He has no desire for you to see the hundreds and possibly thousands of Kuwaitis who were tortured, maimed, mutilated, raped and murdered for merely being from Kuwait. Open your eyes for ONCE and see what the truth really is. You ARE blinded by the dollar if you think that this is what the war is all about. You sit in your nice warm home, in freedom, typing on a computer that, for the reality of it all, 99% of the world will never see or own anything like it. You piss and moan about people who are willing to rise up and stand against an evil tyrant like Sadaam—who claims to be the reincarnation of King Nebuchadnezzer of the Bible.

SHAME ON YOU! YOU are the REAL hypocrites here…not honorable men like George W. Bush and Tony Blair. SHAME ON YOU! You are fake! You are phony people who are guilty of the blood of thousands of innocents because of your inaction. The US and UK (and all coalition countries) will be found guiltless and blameless. Unlike you.

A Canadain who doesn’t hate Americans – just can’t trust them.

P.S.: Don’t let you emotions cloud your objectivity.

P.S.S.: If you feel like posting this, do so.

Jeff (I’m assuming you’re American. I apologise if you’re not, but the points are still valid.),

Some answers to your comments:

Interesting that those who are “shaming” the USA are the same individuals who don’t live here…yet, but deeply desire to.
A: Not really, Jeff. You’re deluding yourself. I lived in the USA for one year and hated it.

A: You must read your history. USA did not want to get involved in the war until after Pearl Harbour. UK was losing the war at that time. Russia was giving the Germans a good pounding on the eastern front. Germans had to divert significant forces from the west. UK-US then had the chance for victory. Educate yourself first before making comments like these!

Have you also forgotten the BILLIONS of dollars that the US has GIVEN away with NO hopes of ever being repaid?
A: Always strings attached. Don’t be naive.

Or does your economy exist beyond the dollar? You hypocrites! How dare you insult the US or Great Britain! You are snivelling cowards who run from a dictator like Sadaam Hussein because you think you need more “proof”.
A: Where is it, Jeff? As an aside, does the US have weapons of mass destruction? Has it used them on other countries and are you in a position to have access to this type of information, if it were true or false? Hmmmmm.

The only proof you need is found in a whiskey bottle
A: Very clever.

because you refuse to see the tens and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens that Sadaam and his regime have massacred.
A: True, he did. Now what about Pol Pot, Stalin, Idi Amin, Zhu Rongi, etc. Why does the USA ignore massacres perpetrated by these leaders?

Their blood cries out and all you can do is sit in judgement on a righteous man like George W. Bush!
A: Righteous? You must be from Texas. Read Fortunate Son by J.H. Hatfield. I’m in the process of reading it myself. He’s no angel.

You are hypocrites because you bow down to the dollar every day and worship it like Sadaam wants you to!
A: We have no choice. Division of labour is essential in an capitalised industrial economy. Money is the token of trade for this system. Shall we discard the dollar and switch to the barter system? And the USA doesn’t “worship” money? Moreover, “worship” is too religious a term. How about “wholly depend on”?

He has no desire for you to see the mass graves that are filled to overflowing with the innocent men, women and children who refused to merely follow him. He has no desire for you to see the tens of thousands of Iranian soldiers that he butchered.
A: All “probably” true. Fact that weapons from the Iran-Iraq war financed by the USA-CIA. Fact that Sadaam’s chemicals sold by US and Kurdish gassing ignored by US during Bush#1 era. Hypocrites you say?

He has no desire for you to see the hundreds and possibly thousands of Kuwaitis who were tortured, maimed, mutilated, raped and murdered for merely being from Kuwait. Open your eyes for ONCE and see what the truth really is. You ARE blinded by the dollar if you think that this is what the war is all about. You piss and moan about people who are willing to rise up and stand against an evil tyrant like Sadaam—who claims to be the reincarnation of King Nebuchadnezzer of the Bible.
A: You must be a religious zealot. If your country truly supports the projection of its own values (i.e; laws) to the international community, then regardless of implication, a burden of proof must be met before announcing guilt or innocence. In a sense, we must presume that Saddam (chaek your spelling dude!) is innocent until proven guilty. The USA breaks its own laws on an international scale.

Unlike you.
A: I think you’re a fundamentalist. Why don’t you recruit yourself to the US army, fly to Iraq, and fight. When bullets whizz by your head, maybe you’ll understand the peace argument. Truly, you are missing the point.

My beef:
America is slowly becoming a country that lacks any credibility with the rest of the world. Based on actions of your foreign policies since WW2, your country lacks integrity when facilitating “freedom” for all, while ignoring global “humanitarian” conflicts that do not serve American interests. Shame on you for being selective in your worldwide policing efforts. Shame on your country’s leaders for not joining the international community because they think you have the moral right to do as they please, when they please.

If you think the USA is all powerful, then I call on the rest of the world to band together at some UN meeting and simply make the US dollar null and void for international trade. That would wake you guys up pretty quick, wouldn’t it? Hehe.

To AnAmerican, whoever you are…

Well, there is hope for you yanks yet.

I’m a Canadian who does not accuse the US citizen for promoting this White House misadventure. So please don’t believe the media. Their stories are written for shock value (it gives them business) and have no relation to the beliefs of well-rounded, free-thinking, and socially decent individuals.

My beef (which probably reflects the attitude of some Canadians) is wholly rooted by the hypocritical stance the USA government has taken in justifying the war (by the way, the USA is not the only imperialist western economy nation, it’s just the biggest punching bag at the moment). Your (past) government created this monster and it is YOUR (present) government who will have to send its young soldiers to fight and die for past mistakes (why Britain is involved is Tony Blair’s problem).

What is insulting to people’s intelligence is when Bush and his cronies deride other nations for not joining a war to eliminate a dictator who was armed and financed by the USA (with the help of the CIA) itself. If anything, you should point out to others in your country that these events actually happened and that particular past surely defines the present situation in Iraq – if they have a short memory. For more info, check this site as well as many others…

http://www.bowlingforcolumbine.com/library/wonderful/iraq.php

Your country prides itself for living in a free and JUST society – I can only assume JUST means that your citizens respect laws set forth by your forefathers in relation to freedom of expression, open organisation, of speech, bla, bla, bla. But when your governemnt disrespects its own laws on an international scale (innocent until proven guilty re: weapons of mass destruction), then the USA loses credibility and the perception of integrity with the rest of the world.

How do YOU change the current situation? Well, realistically, this can only be accomplished by protest, lobbying, letters, emails and debates among colleagues. But change will happen. Starting with voting out Bush#2 in the next election (and get rid of Wolfowitz, Rumsfeld, Cheney, and Pearle too). Heck, I can say that I’ve gained some respect for Bill Clinton now. He he.

Yours Truly
